Akwa United Chairman, Isong Isang has criticised the short time available for clubs to prepare ahead of the new league season.
Speaking to Inside Out Premier League from the team’s camp in Uyo, Isang said it puts club managers and coaches in tight corners to build a formidable team for the season.
“The date for the commencement of the season for me is too short. The time frame available for clubs to prepare is too short, it makes it difficult for new players to properly synergise with the team in other for input to be seen.
“There should have been at least two months break after the last game of last season to enable teams get their house together. With this kind approach, players will struggle to give the fans the expected results required of them. Notwithstanding, I believe that the boys will up their game knowing that there is less time to prepare,” Isang said.
On the readiness of his wards for the season, he said, “We brought in 12 new players into the team while 15 were sent packing. We hope that those that came in will actualize the dreams of the club this season as we believe we can compete for a continental ticket.”
