Man sentenced 150 days for stealing iron rods

An Abuja Senior Magistrate Court on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year-old builder, Victor Iorshagher to150 days imprisonment for stealing 40 pieces of iron rods and 74 pieces of binding rods.

However, Senior Magistrate Abdullahi IIelah gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 fine.

He said that although the convict begged for leniency, he must be punished to serve as a deterrent to others.

Police prosecutor Salisu Mohammed had told the court that one Mrs Julius Karniliyus of Hafsat Plaza, Abuja, reported the case at the Life Camp Police Station on January 2.

Mohammed said that Iorshagher stole the items from a building site at the Sahara Estate belonging to Karniliyus, on January 2.

The prosecutor said that the action contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

Iorshagher pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of theft and begged for leniency. (NAN)
