The Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Ilorin branch, Mr. Rafiu Balogun, has urged the Federal Government to reconsider its stance on state police.
Balogun told the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin on Tuesday that the creation of state police would assist in saving lives and property.
He said the establishment of state police was imperative in view of the security challenges facing the country.
He said, “The issue of security of lives and property is crucial and germane to our existence as a nation and it must be of great concern to any responsible government.
“The creation of state police is becoming inevitable; we strongly urge the Federal Government to have a re-think about the state police in the interest of Nigerians.”
On fears that state police could be abused, the NBA chairman noted that courts would always be on hand to handle such cases and restore normalcy in the polity.
