A staunch activist of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, has rubbished media reports that flagbearer of the NPP has failed to pay to the state the tax element involved in the sale of his late father\u2019s property.<\/p>\n

The Ghanaian Lens<\/strong> newspaper, on Thursday published that the NPP flagbearer has denied the state an amount of 1.8 million dollars in tax revenue that he should have paid as capital gain, from the alleged sale of his late father\u2019s property known as the Ringway Hotel, which was sold to SG-SSB for 22,659 dollars.<\/p>\n

The deal, according to newspaper\u2019s sources, was concluded in London during Akufo-Addo\u2019s recent visit to the UK.<\/p>\n

\u201cHowever, checks at the various tax agencies, including the Domestic Tax Division of and GRA showed that Akufo-Addo has not reported the transaction to the taxman let alone pay one dime as tax on the money that he made from the sale,\u201d claims the Ghanaian Lens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

But speaking in an interview on Radio Gold<\/strong>, an Accra-based commercial radio station; Abu Jinapor expressed shock at the \u2018malicious\u2019 publication, and maintained that the property was never sold, but was rather leased.<\/p>\n

He described the publication as childish.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026the property has not been sold but it has been leased to SG-SSB. With all due respect I think that it\u2019s childish thinking\u2026\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

<\/span>He posited that if truly Nana Addo has evaded tax as the pro-government newspaper claims, the NPP flagbearer should have been arrested by now instead of being allowed to saunter on the streets of Accra.<\/p>\n

\u201cI find it difficult to understand how somebody can come out with such a story\u2026If he\u2019s done something like that, then he should not have been allowed to walk on the streets of Accra. This Akufo Addo phobia\u2026is rather making him popular\u2026,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
