Tottenham<\/a> defender Younes Kaboul<\/a> has backed team-mate Jermain Defoe<\/a> to regain his England<\/a> place and revealed if he was manager he\u2019d play him ‘straight away’.<\/span><\/p>\n

Defoe was left out of the last England squad by boss Fabio Capello but has found his scoring touch in recent weeks at Spurs, with Kaboul leading the calls for him to be drafted back into the next squad.<\/p>\n

“Of course Jermain can get in [the England team],” he told the club\u2019s official website.<\/p>\n

“I’m surprised he wasn’t picked in the last squad. Everyone knows Jermain. Every time he plays he scores, especially for England.<\/p>\n

“Every time I have seen him play for England he has scored at least one goal. He’s got a good average with his national team.<\/p>\n

“If I was the manager I would play him straight away.”<\/p>\n

The defender also admitted he felt this is the best Tottenham squad he\u2019s been a part of during his time at White Hart Lane, and believes the competition is inspiring him and his team-mates to produce their best football.<\/p>\n

\u201cWithout any question, this is the best squad we have had since I first joined Spurs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have so many great players here, it is a pleasure to be a part of it at the moment.<\/p>\n

“The competition for places is so fierce, there is always someone waiting to take your place but that is the way of football at every club. More competition is good because it makes you work harder.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have played every game in the league and I feel good, I am enjoying myself and I always say that every time you get a chance in this team, you have to try to do your best and make the most of the opportunity.<\/p>\n

“That is what I try every time I play and I am happy with the way things are going.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe team is doing well and in this squad, everyone is on the same level. We all fight for each other, we have a strong mentality at the moment and when you have that, anything is possible.”<\/p>\n
