IKEJA \u2013 Three persons were feared dead, yesterday, as factions of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW,\u00a0 battled for control of\u00a0 a motor park\u00a0 at Mafoluku\/Airport\u00a0 Road area of Lagos State, leaving several others with severe injuries.<\/p>\n

The clash, which grounded vehicular activities on the ever-busy Airport Road, leading to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, lasted for hours, as hoodlums from Mafoluku-Oshodi, stormed\u00a0 7 and 8 Bus-Stop, on Airport Road, in a bid to take over the park and unleash terror.<\/p>\n

Vanguard gathered that efforts by the invading hoodlums to take over the park sparked off violence, as they met stiff\u00a0 resistance\u00a0 which degenerated\u00a0 to a free-for-all.<\/p>\n

Eyewitnesses told Vanguard that the warring factions fought themselves\u00a0 with dangerous weapons , while\u00a0 several vehicle windscreens were\u00a0 shattered.<\/p>\n

A roadside mechanic, Jide Babalola, who spoke with Vanguard on the incident, said hoodlums from Mafoluku-Oshodi area, who were allegedly led by members of Odua Peoples Congress, OPC, stormed\u00a0 the area\u00a0 about\u00a0 9 a.m. yesterday, in a bid to take over the park.<\/p>\n

He said:\u00a0 \u201cThey came this morning with dangerous weapons to take over the park at 7 and 8 Bus-Stop,\u00a0 but the union there refused to relinquish it and fought back.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe learnt that the people from Mafoluku-Oshodi, who attacked this park today have been asking for\u00a0 a share of\u00a0 proceeds from this park and they couldn\u2019t get\u00a0 it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that may have necessitated the\u00a0\u00a0 forceful takeover of the park,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

One Charles, a motorcycle operator, said: \u201cI saw several people with injuries while the fight was on and about three of them lying motionless in blood. But, it was the police that ended the fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lagos State Police Command Spokesman, Mr. Samuel Jinadu, said normalcy had been restored to the area.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201d Policemen from Akinpelu, Mosafejo and Makinde\u00a0 were drafted swiftly to the area and they have restored normalcy; the roads are free and people are going about their business peaceful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jinadu , who could not confirm the number of casualties, said the case was under investigation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
