{"id":8116,"date":"2011-12-07T18:38:17","date_gmt":"2011-12-07T18:38:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/12\/burundi-slam-cecafa-changes\/"},"modified":"2011-12-07T18:38:17","modified_gmt":"2011-12-07T18:38:17","slug":"burundi-slam-cecafa-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/12\/07\/burundi-slam-cecafa-changes\/","title":{"rendered":"Burundi slam Cecafa &#8216;changes&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span><span>By Emmanuel Muga<\/span><br \/><span>BBC Sport, Dar es Salaam<\/span><\/span> <span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/news.bbcimg.co.uk\/media\/images\/57190000\/jpg\/_57190672_burundi_team_2011_gtty.jpg\" width=\"466\" height=\"300\" alt=\"Burundi's national football team\" \/> Burundi were beaten 2-0 by Sudan on Monday, even though they had prepared to face Zimbabwe that day<\/span> <\/p>\n<p>On the eve of the tournament semi-finals, the organisation of the ongoing Cecafa Cup in Tanzania has been severely criticised.<\/p>\n<p>Burundi have complained about the shock change of fixtures on the eve of the quarter-finals.<\/p>\n<p>The side were beaten by Sudan on Monday, when they had been preparing to face Zimbabwe just hours earlier.<\/p>\n<p>In Thursday&#8217;s semi-finals, Sudan take on Rwanda while hosts &#8211; and defending champions &#8211; Tanzania face Uganda.<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Sudan vs Rwanda<\/li>\n<li>Tanzania vs Uganda<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>Burundi, who lost 2-0 against Sudan, felt disadvantaged after learning at short notice that their opponents would be the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/sport1\/hi\/football\/16025105.stm\">2012 Africa Cup of Nations finalists<\/a> rather than Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We were not supposed to play Sudan according to the quarter-final fixtures but we were surprised the game was changed without giving us a notice,&#8221; lamented Burundi coach Adel Amrouche.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is totally against fair play, and I sincerely feel it diluted the competitiveness of the tournament.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Journalists have also been complaining about this change of fixtures, which led to inaccurate reporting.<\/p>\n<p>Reacting to Amrouche&#8217;s comments, Cecafa general secretary Nicolas Musonye dismissed him when saying: &#8220;He says he was supposed to play Zimbabwe, [but] would they even have managed to beat Zimbabwe?&#8221; Musonye asked BBC Sport.<\/p>\n<p>Musonye also denied changing the fixtures, saying his organisation sent out the quarter-final line-up of the East and Central African tournament long before it began.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, both coaches and journalists have contested this &#8211; with the initial fixtures showing fundamental changes to those sent out in a press release after a meeting of the Cecafa committee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During its meeting on Sunday afternoon, the organizing committee disclosed the names of the 8 countries and they will meet as follows: Burundi vs Sudan, Rwanda Vs Zanzibar, Zimbabwe Vs Uganda and Tanzania Vs Malawi,&#8221; the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>Just hours earlier, the line-up had had a very different feel.<\/p>\n<p>Sudan had been set to face Uganda, Rwanda were taking on Zanzibar while Tanzania were playing Malawi.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> By Emmanuel Muga BBC Sport, Dar es Salaam Burundi were beaten 2-0 by Sudan on Monday, even though they had prepared to face Zimbabwe that day On the eve of the tournament semi-finals, the organisation of the ongoing Cecafa Cup in Tanzania has been severely criticised.
