The ANC legislature caucus in KwaZulu-Natal welcomed the province’s improved audit opinions for the 2010\/2011 financial year on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Spokesman S\u2019khumbuzo Qwabe said auditor general Terrence Nombembe’s report was proof that the ANC led government’s pledge, to fight corruption and improve security on financial management was real.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Nombembe said: \u201cThe significance of this summary is that we are beginning to see progress in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

Five unqualified audits were recorded and eight departments had qualified opinions. No department received a disclaimer \u00c4 which is regarded as the worst report.<\/p>\n

Nombembe said the province needed to pay more attention to financial excellence, service delivery reporting and compliance to sustain positive audit opinions.<\/p>\n

He suggested that government departments conduct monthly audits to avoid mistakes at the end of the financial year.<\/p>\n

Qwabe said more work was needed to ensure all public institutions received clean audits.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe therefore call on the legislature to maintain its effective and robust oversight role over the executive and must create a more focused monitoring system to ensure progress in terms of administration of finances in our friendly province.\u201d – Sapa<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
