Kenya clash with Sudan in a Group C match, a must win for each team to guarantee advancement to the next stage, while hosts and defending champions Tanzania and Zimbabwe are also confronted with a similar scenario in Group A.<\/p>\n
The 60,000-capacity National Stadium is expected to fill up impressively for the first time in the tournament following appeals from Tanzania Football Federation to local fans to unite and cheer their team to the next round.<\/p>\n
Meetings between Kenya and Sudan have always been close affairs and this one promises to be the same.<\/p>\n
Kenya coach Francis Kimanzi revealed little on his game plan, only volunteering: “Each game is different, each game has different strategy, each game has its objective.”<\/p>\n
Sneak in with a draw<\/strong><\/p>\nA draw could see Kenya sneak through but Kimanzi will no doubt be looking for outright victory to enhance their chances of topping the pool.<\/p>\n
But even after two matches featuring changed sides, it is difficult to assess the real abilities of Harambee Stars.<\/p>\n
Malawi hammered them 2-0 in the first match while they recovered to beat Ethiopia by a similar margin in driving rain.<\/p>\n
Of concern to Kimanzi will be the strike force of KPL sharp shooters Bob Mugalia, Stephen Waruru, Victor Ochieng and Paul Were.<\/p>\n
Mugalia and Ochieng may have scored a goal each thus far but the link-up of the strike force, on the evidence of Kenya’s first two matches, is unlikely to threaten the opposition.<\/p>\n
Stars must show more pace and incisiveness; otherwise it will be another struggle for the five-time champions.<\/p>\n
Jamal Mohammed is a slight concern with a groin strain but Stars are likely to start with the same side that beat Ethiopia on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
As team captain Pascal Ochieng holds up the defence, veteran Titus Mulama and Humphrey Mieno will command the midfield.<\/p>\n
Chemelil striker Victor Ochieng should maintain his newfound starting role with Mugalia and Kevin Kimani offering options on the flank.<\/p>\n
Sudan are unbeaten and have exhibited sound technical abilities.<\/p>\n
Their coach, Mubarak Suliman, may have said they are a development side but the Africa Cup of Nations-bound side is clearly not here to make the numbers.<\/p>\n
Tanzania should welcome the return of speedy Mrisho Ngassa to add punch to a decidedly blunt strike force.<\/p>\n
They will desperately need the home fans rallying behind them against formidable Zimbabwe, the highest Fifa-ranked team in this year’s tournament.<\/p>\n
