Awka \u2013 A bill, which will abolish the construction of bore holes Anambra State is under way in the state House of Assembly.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Chief Whip, Mr Tony Ezekwelu, who represent Idemili South Constituency,\u00a0 made the disclosure at a media forum in Awka on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Ezekwelu, the initiator of the bill, argued that most of the bore holes dug in the state had become sources of \u201csicknesses\u201c to the people.<\/p>\n

When passed into law, he said, the building of bore holes would be\u00a0 a thing of the past as that would pave the way for the resuscitation of water schemes and reticulation across the state.<\/p>\n

He also announced that another bill entitled \u201cInfrastructural Local Content Bill\u201c was in the making in the House.<\/p>\n

According to him, the bill when passed and assented to, will ensure that every contractor that comes to do contract in the state employs 85 per cent of its workforce from the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is to stop capital flight and as way of empowering our jobless youths,\u201c Ezekwelu said.<\/p>\n

Ezekwelu, who is a member of the House Committee on Health, said that from the first quarter of 2012, all pregnant women in the Anambra would enjoy free ante-natal treatment in government hospitals.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to partner with international donor agencies to ensure that our people access health facilities for a healthy life style,\u201c he said.<\/p>\n

The legislator explained that his foray into politics was\u00a0 purely for service to the people, especially the youth.<\/p>\n

He promised that within the next four years in the legislature, he would give priority to the training and empowerment of youths in his area.<\/p>\n

\u201cI intend to reduce unemployment to the barest minimum among the youth in my area through skills acquisition and empowerment,\u201c Ezekwelu stressed.<\/p>\n

He said that if resources were properly utilised, unemployment and poverty would be wiped out from the society.(NAN)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
