The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has called on the Attorney General to speed up the processes to have the Legislative Instrument passed to ensure the realization of the rights of persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n
The Commission said the Legislative Instrument needed for the full implementation of persons with Disability Act (Act 750), which was passed five years ago, remained one of the outstanding issues that persons with disabilities have to contend with.<\/p>\n
A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Mr Richard Quayson, Deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ, said as the world marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities, its acknowledges and celebrates their contributions to nation building.<\/p>\n
The statement said December 3 had been set aside since 1992 to promote an understanding of disability issues and galvanize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.<\/p>\n
It said the day is also to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the inclusion of persons with disabilities in every aspect of life.<\/p>\n
It said this year\u2019s celebration, which is on the theme \u201cTogether for a better World for all: Including persons with disabilities in development\u201d, regards persons with disabilities as an important segment of the population who cannot be overlooked in national development.<\/p>\n
The statement said the recent launch of the persons with disability Information and Communication Technology Project aimed at equipping persons with disabilities with necessary skills to enable them take up opportunities and businesses was highly commendable.<\/p>\n
The statement said that the inauguration of the Disability Management Fund Committee to oversee the disbursement of the two per cent share of the District Assembly Common Fund meant for persons with disabilities to acquire skills and a living was a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n
It said the Commission had no doubt that these interventions would put persons with disabilities in good stead to further contribute to national development.<\/p>\n
The statement added that it hoped that these measures would be sustained while other avenues are explored to provide a level playing field for persons with disabilities to contribute to making the world better for all.<\/p>\n
