{"id":489231,"date":"2011-10-11T16:18:09","date_gmt":"2011-10-11T16:18:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/10\/11\/npp-calls-for-ec-probe\/"},"modified":"2011-10-11T16:18:09","modified_gmt":"2011-10-11T16:18:09","slug":"npp-calls-for-ec-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/10\/11\/npp-calls-for-ec-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"NPP calls for EC probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/38a2796enana_akomea.jpg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-22494\" title=\"nana_akomea\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/38a2796enana_akomea.jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"245\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nana Akomea<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected claims by the chairman of Ghana\u2019s Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadjo Afari-Gyan that none of his officials is conniving with the ruling National Democratic Congress to rig the 2012 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>The NPP supported the <em>Statesman\u2019s<\/em> reports that some top officials of the EC were contracted by the NDC to assist them manipulate the biometric voters\u2019 register for the 2012 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Amadu Sulley, an official of the electoral regulation body is the man at the center of the controversy after he spoke to NDC officials at the party\u2019s retreat last month.<\/p>\n<p>The NPP MP for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, was the brain behind the revelation.<br id=\"0.5403862792969983\"\/><br \/>\nAlthough Dr. Afari-Gyan said the EC official did nothing wrong when he addressed the NDC officials on the biometric voters\u2019 register, the NPP disagrees.<\/p>\n<p>Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea, told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the EC chairman should rather launch an investigation into the reports instead of defending his officials.<\/p>\n<p>According to Nana Akomea, \u201canother senior official from the Electoral Commission denied that there was no such meeting, if there is an official letter and the officer there was acting in an official capacity, why would another senior official be denying that any such meeting took place? \u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually the meeting was then confirmed by official of the NDC itself including the General Secretary and they gave conflicting reasons, one said that the official came there to train their people, another said he came there to brief them on the biometric,\u201d Akomea said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Electoral Commission has an officer or a director in charge of training so if you are going to meet with political parties to instruct them on the procedures of the elections and so on, should it not be the director of training?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have not accused Afari-Gyan or the Electoral Commission as a body, but the director of research went to a secret meeting with a political party and discussed with them ways that they can exploit the biometric registration, that is an allegation that Afari-Gyan should institute investigations into, to retain the good image of the Electoral Commission. \u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Source: Citifmonline<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Nana Akomea The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rejected claims by the chairman of Ghana\u2019s Electoral Commission, Dr. Kwadjo Afari-Gyan that none of his officials is conniving with the ruling National Democratic Congress to rig the 2012 general elections. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-489231","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.0 -
