Golf Offshore NS Limited, an oil service provider has presented a cheque of GH\u00a23,750 to members of the Half-Assini Landing Beach Committee in the Jomoro District of the Western region to help the fishermen purchase nets, outboard motors and other fishing equipment to enhance their businesses.<\/p>\n
According to officials of the company, the donation, which formed part of the company\u2019s corporate social responsibility, would help the fishermen repair their obsolete machines for rescue operations.<\/p>\n
Making the presentation, Capt. Francis Boakye, the company\u2019s local representative, noted that his outfit recognized the value of the marine environment to the local communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cGive a fisherman a fish and you feed him today, but when you allow a fisherman to repair his damaged fishing gear, you feed him for a great number of years,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
He disclosed that the company assisted the Takoradi Seafarers Mission in upgrading the centre and other local marine organizations as part of its corporate social responsibility.<\/p>\n
Receiving the cheque, Nana Kweku Yudur, Chief fishermen of the community, thanked the oil company for the donation and pledged that the money would be used for the intended purpose.<\/p>\n
He appealed to other oil companies operating in the area to emulate the shining example of Golf Offshore and come to the aid of the fishermen in the area to help improve their living standards.<\/p>\n
