The Assistant General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr. Frank Serebuor has descended heavily on the Chief Executive Officer of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), George Smith Graham describing him as very untruthful.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou see Mr. Graham has found himself in a lot of mess and he should clear himself of that because he has not been truthful to the issues\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n
According to Dr. Serebuor, the medical association has not reached any consensus with FWSC with respect to the grading structure of the scheme as claimed by George Smith-Graham.<\/p>\n
Mr. Graham speaking on Asempa Fm\u2019s Ekosii-Sen claimed his outfit has met with the representatives of the health groups and agreed on the grading structure of the medical officers\u2019 share of the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS), but Dr. Serebuor says \u201cit is a lie\u201d.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Asempa Fm\u2019s current affairs programme, Ekosii-Sen, Dr. Serebuor said both parties have never agreed on any salary issues.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey wrote to the Ministry of Finance that we have reached a consensus on the proposed salary and not that doctors have agreed anything\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added that the Ghana Medical Association has written to the FWSC on a number of proposals pertaining to the SSSS but have not received any attention or acknowledgment.<\/p>\n
He noted that the FWSC has treated them unfairly by reporting them to the National Labour Commission that their negotiations have now reached a deadlock.<\/p>\n
He declined claims by the FWSC that they are meeting the medical association on the marketing premium. \u201cWe are not aware of meeting FWSC on the marketing premium so Smith Graham should come again\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said the Mr Smith Graham should be forthcoming and address the issues because his action is not helping the scheme.<\/p>\n
He asserted that the strike can be resolved in just forty-eight (48) hours if the FWSC will meet the association and deliberate on their proposals to the SSSS.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile in a quick rebuttal, Mr. George Smith-Graham said that he has evidence on all their meetings with the association and will make it available to the public.<\/p>\n
He said an issue of salary negotiations of public sector workers is complex and demands a lot of time so the GMA should exercise restraint.<\/p>\n
He noted that the demand of the medical officers is huge and any attempt to implement them will collapse the economy.<\/p>\n
He called on the NLC to bring the striking doctors to order because their strike is an unfair labour practice.<\/p>\n
\u201cduring our meeting at Dodowa, we all agreed to the grading structure and expected the GMA to have raised any issues of doubt on the proposed salary but to my surprise [I} heard them going on strike\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n
He said the GMA and the FWSC have agreed on the grading structure and are left with the marketing premium which would be finalized on Thursday.<\/p>\n
