{"id":488800,"date":"2011-10-10T14:32:21","date_gmt":"2011-10-10T14:32:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/10\/10\/lifeline-for-contractors\/"},"modified":"2011-10-10T14:32:21","modified_gmt":"2011-10-10T14:32:21","slug":"lifeline-for-contractors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/10\/10\/lifeline-for-contractors\/","title":{"rendered":"Lifeline for Contractors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyguideghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/contractor.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-21255\" title=\"contractor\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dailyguideghana.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/contractor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"279\" \/><\/a>The deadline for the submission of forms for the National Building and Civil Contractors Excellence Awards has been extended to October 26, 2011 to enable contractors complete the entry forms in order to compete for the awards.<\/p>\n<p>However the contractors say due to the comprehensive nature of the entry forms, they would require additional time to prepare the accompanying documents.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (ABCECG) Rockson Dogbegah, who disclosed the extension of the deadline, noted that filling of the 21-page entry forms requires a lot of time and work.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned that contractors are required to submit a lot of documents and get endorsement from consultants who work with them on the various projects, adding that \u201cthe Criteria Development Committee deem it fair to extend the deadline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first-ever excellence awards for the building construction industry forms part of efforts by ABCECG to discourage shoddy works and encourage excellence, particularly among Ghanaian contractors.<\/p>\n<p>He said the selection criteria are thorough so as to ensure that the entire process is free and fair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we are pushing for excellence then the selection criteria itself must be excellent and we are not compromising on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Dogbegah said the awards slated for December promises to be a great event that will be truly national in character, as several activities will be rolled out to gain the attention of the general public.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the building contractors to pick up forms because a big celebration awaits them in December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be no better platform than what will happen in December to market yourself as a contractor, so if you stay out, you would miss out,\u201d the Technical Committee Chairman added.<\/p>\n<p>The National Building and Civil Contractors Excellence Award is being organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Water Resources Works and Housing and will be held at the Banquet Hall of the State House.<\/p>\n<p>A delegation from South Africa will attend the event come December 8, 2011.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>From Business desk<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> The deadline for the submission of forms for the National Building and Civil Contractors Excellence Awards has been extended to October 26, 2011 to enable contractors complete the entry forms in order to compete for the awards.
