{"id":4798,"date":"2011-12-02T21:15:00","date_gmt":"2011-12-02T21:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/12\/deliverance-actor-bill-mckinney-dies\/"},"modified":"2011-12-02T21:15:00","modified_gmt":"2011-12-02T21:15:00","slug":"deliverance-actor-bill-mckinney-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/12\/02\/deliverance-actor-bill-mckinney-dies\/","title":{"rendered":"Deliverance Actor Bill McKinney Dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Deliverance<\/em> actor Bill McKinney died Thursday from cancer of the esophagus, according to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Bill-McKinney\/112414975436880?sk=wiki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>McKinney, who was 80 when he passed away, was best known for his role as a twisted mountain man who assaulted Ned Beatty&#8217;s character in 1972&#8217;s <em>Deliverance<\/em>. During the scene \u2013 which <em>Entertainment Weekly<\/em> calls &#8220;one of the most unsettling scenes ever put on film&#8221; \u2013 McKinney&#8217;s character orders his victim to &#8220;squeal like a pig.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McKinney had a varied and long career, with parts in television and in films with major stars including <em>Thunderbolt<\/em> and <em>Lightfoot<\/em> with Clint Eastwood and <em>The Parallax View<\/em> with Warren Beatty. <\/p>\n<p>He also had roles in in <em>First Blood<\/em>, <em>Back to the Future Part III<\/em> and <em>The Green Mile<\/em>. In 2010, he appeared in <em>How Do You Know<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;An avid smoker for 25 years of his younger life, he died of cancer of the esophagus,&#8221; the Facebook announcement reads, going on to reveal that only recently the actor &#8220;continued to work on his biography with his writing partner. Hopefully 2012 will bring a publisher for the wild ride his life was.
