Manchester United<\/a> have confirmed that Javier Hernandez<\/a>, Michael Carrick<\/a> and Rafael<\/a> will all miss Sunday\u2019s Community Shield clash against rivals Manchester City<\/a> due to injury.

Mexican striker Hernandez was a revelation in his debut season at Old Trafford last year but is being handled carefully following a concussion suffered in pre-season.<\/p>\n

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said at his pre-match press conference: \u201cHernandez is still two to three weeks away.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe should be back at the end of August.<\/p>\n

\u201cConsidering he had a concussion some years ago, we’re playing it safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

England midfielder Carrick complained of \u201cfeeling a tightness in his Achilles\u201d during Wednesday\u2019s testimonial game for recently retired goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and will be kept out of the Community Shield as a precaution.<\/p>\n

Full-back Rafael picked up a knock in the friendly victory over Barcelona last week.<\/p>\n

Darren Fletcher and Antonio Valencia have, however, returned to training, although neither is likely to appear on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s very easy to get emotional about this type of game,\u201d Sir Alex said on the subject of the upcoming derby match.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don’t think we’ll be changing our policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’ve always viewed the Community Shield as a stepping stone for the first game of the season and there are two or three players who will need a game.\u201d<\/p>\n
