Five prominent members of Abeokuta Golf Club on Sunday disowned Abeokuta Golf International Limited and faulted the Certificate of Occupancy secured by the company.<\/span><\/p>\n

They are a former captain of the club, Chief Adewumi Adefolu; a former secretary, Dr. Tayo Apampa; a former captain, Chief Akin Akande; another former captain, Dr. Segun Onalaja; and a former Director of Ogun State Sports Council, Dr. Bunmi Sanyaola.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chairman of the Abeokuta Golf Club, Chief Olumide Oluwole, had described AGIL as part of the club, adding that the company had to be registered in the process of commercialising the club.<\/span><\/p>\n

But Adefolu, who spoke on behalf of others, said the club assigned Oluwole and a few other members of the club after a meeting to register the club. He said the members were shocked to discover that the Certificate of Occupancy read: \u2018Abeokuta Golf International Limited of Abeokuta Golf Club\u2019 instead of Abeokuta Golf Club.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adefolu maintained that the group and other members of the club were not favourably disposed to the registration as the company did not belong to the club.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said efforts made by the club to get the Certificate of Occupancy from Olumide had been unsuccessful.<\/span><\/p>\n

On controversy over the demolition of the club\u2019s Water Park, Adefolu said aggrieved members were ready to testify against Oluwole before a court.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI think the government should be interested in knowing how government land allotted to public purpose got into private hands without due process,\u201d he stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

Olumide said the committee had a problem in the process of registration as the club could not be registered for commercial purpose as planned and the development led to the birth of AGIL<\/span><\/p>\n

He said the necessary papers could be verified \u201cup to the Corporate Affairs Commission. In all our papers we have stated that the company belongs to the club, the company is not standing on its own outside the club.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The prominent Egba chief said the club was jointly owned by the government with public participation through shares holding, adding that the government owned certain percentage of the shares of the company.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
