The Ijaw Youth\u00a0 Council (IYC), Western Zone, comprising Delta, Edo and Ondo states, has warned President Goodluck Jonathan against bowing to pressure to grant amnesty to member of the Islamic sect, Boko Haram.<\/p>\n

In a communiqu\u00e9 at the end of\u00a0 a zonal congress meeting at Arogbo, Ondo State, endorsed by Comrades Preye Okaba, Friday Atigbi and Oweikeye Endoro, Chairman, Secretary and Information Officer, respectively, the IYC decried comparisons of the Islamic sect to Niger Delta combatants.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongress condemns the activities of Boko Haram in strong terms and holds that there is no basis for comparison, as some have done, of the Muslim group with Niger Delta combatants fighting against the criminal neglect of the region by the Nigerian government that feeds fat from its resources\u201d, the statement noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cShould the Federal Government kowtow to calls for amnesty for Boko Haram, the funds accruing from the Niger Delta oil should never be contemplated to facilitate such amnesty programme\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
