\u2026Police auditor killed in Maiduguri<\/p>\n

ABUJA \u2013 Concerns about the threat of Boko Haram to national and sub- regional peace and security were raised yesterday as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Onyeabor Ihejirika, spoke on the\u00a0 operational capabilities of the force to deal with the threat.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Ihejirika said the Nigerian Army was having an upper hand in its resolve to flush out the Boko Haram sect threatening the peace and stability of the country.<\/p>\n

\u00a0He said the army has deployed armoured tanks to withstand the bombs and other high caliber explosives hauled at the patrol teams of JTF in Borno State code named\u2019 Operation Restore Order\u2019.<\/p>\n

The COAS said this just as the National Security Adviser, General Andrew Azazi, warned against bickering and backbiting in the Army Intelligence Corps, noting that the days when such unholy practices reigned for selfish pecuniary gains were over.<\/p>\n

Vanguard had exclusively reported that bickering among the security agencies was hindering their operations.<\/p>\n

Ihejirika said the army had come under serious and consistent attacks from\u00a0 the Boko Haram terrorists who tried to take them unawares by throwing bombs at the soldiers \u201cbut it has always backfired due to the upgrading and deployment of the modernized armoured tanks which are part of the over 80 tanks we recently rehabilitated and upgraded for more effectiveness.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Army Chief, who was speaking at the 2011 Nigerian Army Intelligence Seminar at Scorpion Officers Mess, said, \u201cThe army is moving steadily towards taking control of situation and bringing normalcy to\u00a0 the Boko Haram threat\u201d.

In his contribution, National Security Adviser, General Owoye Andrew Azazi, harped on the importance of ICT and capacity-building for officers and men, especially in tackling terrorism challenges like that posed by Boko Haram and the use of explosives.<\/p>\n

In a related development, suspected members of Boko Haram, yesterday,\u00a0\u00a0 killed Mr. Simon Amos, an auditor with Borno State Police Command in Maiduguri.<\/p>\n

The incident occurred at 4p.m. when the gunmen arrived his residence and shot him dead.<\/p>\n

According to an eye-witness: \u201cWe heard sporadic gunshots from our neighbourhood, on turning to the other direction we saw the deceased lying in a pool of his blood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
