{"id":470122,"date":"2011-07-28T10:48:39","date_gmt":"2011-07-28T10:48:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/07\/28\/harare-dakar-ties-cordial\/"},"modified":"2011-07-28T10:48:39","modified_gmt":"2011-07-28T10:48:39","slug":"harare-dakar-ties-cordial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/07\/28\/harare-dakar-ties-cordial\/","title":{"rendered":"Harare, Dakar Ties Cordial"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"71.6418822571\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.herald.co.zw\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/herald180.jpg\" alt=\"The Herald (Harare)\" title=\"Visit The Herald (Harare)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trudy Stevenson, Zimbabwe&#8217;s Ambassador to Senegal<\/p>\n<p>28 July 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>opinion<\/p>\n<p>THIS article is a first attempt to answer that question from your mission in Dakar, Senegal, in French-speaking West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>As taxpayers, you must sometimes wonder what your money is paying for, especially in our foreign missions, far away from the eyes even of civil society look-outs.<\/p>\n<p>This past year since our reopening in late February 2010, we are proud to have successfully co-ordinated President Mugabes visit for the inauguration of the African Renaissance Monument on April 3 and Senegal&#8217;s celebration of its 50th anniversary of independence on April 4 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Our president was well received and we are proud of that.<\/p>\n<p>We then held a series of meetings with Senegal government officials, civil society and international organisations to establish links and identify areas for future cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>We wrote to our various relevant ministries as well as to CZI and ZNCC, proposing various possibilities and giving our contact details to pass on to interested Zimbabwean exporters and businesspersons. We trust that you have received those details.<\/p>\n<p>A major event in Senegal last year was the December &#8220;Festival Mondial des Arts Negres&#8221; (FESMAN &#8211; World Black Arts Festival) which lasted three weeks from December 7-31.<\/p>\n<p>We arranged, thanks to our ministry and the President&#8217;s Office, for the transport of some 760kg of stone sculptures and paintings to be sent from Zimbabwe for exhibition during the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone with any experience in transporting anything, let alone works of art, by air to other countries will understand what a major feat that was.<\/p>\n<p>This year we hosted a very successful National Day reception on April 18, which had good media coverage and thus went a long way to promoting the good image of our country. This was in the spirit of our independence celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>We have facilitated the visit of numerous Zimbabweans to Senegal, and also for Senegalese and citizens from neighbouring countries to visit Zimbabwe, especially for various conferences and meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Our participants to the UN-IDEP workshops have been particularly frequent.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, last weekend we exhibited some of our artists&#8217; work in the Goree Island &#8220;Regards sur Cours&#8221; exhibition (Lazarus Takawira, Thakor Patel, Lovemore Kambudzi, Portia Zvavahera, Virginia Chihota, Bester Gunja) and at the same time supported our joint equestrian sports team (Kenya, Zimbabwe, Mauritius) in the horse-jumping Africa Tour Dakar Grand Prix Indoor, in which our team came third after Senegal 1 and 2 (riding their own horses), while our rider Charley Crockart came sixth out of some 38 riders, riding a young six-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>Senegal certainly now knows that Zimbabwe exists, and that our embassy &#8220;opposite Abdoulaye Wade&#8217;s house&#8221; is a good place to visit.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage those of you intending to visit Senegal to contact us at Rue de Louga\/ Rue 31, Point E (&#8220;en face maison Abdoulaye Wade&#8221;) or on<\/p>\n<p>Please also bear in mind that we offer excellent official translation\/interpretation facilities in French-speaking Senegal and the region.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<fieldset>\n<legend align=\"center\"><strong>More News on allAfrica.com<\/strong><\/legend>\n<\/fieldset>\n<p>AllAfrica &#8211; All the Time<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Read more here:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/stories\/201107280576.html\" title=\"Harare, Dakar Ties Cordial\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harare, Dakar Ties Cordial<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Trudy Stevenson, Zimbabwe&#8217;s Ambassador to Senegal 28 July 2011 opinion THIS article is a first attempt to answer that question from your mission in Dakar, Senegal, in French-speaking West Africa.
