Mohammed Muniru Kassim

Africa Against Terrorism Initiative (ATI), a Ghanaian non-governmental organisation, has condemned the July 22 twin terrorist attacks on Norway.

It said the confessed perpetrator of that dastardly act Anders Berhring Beihvik and his ilk should bow their heads in shame for causing so many deaths and so much pain, anguish and trauma in such a peaceful country simply on the basis of ideological and/or religious disagreements.

This was contained in a statement issued in Accra yesterday and jointly signed by the President, Mohammed Muniru Kassim and the Public Relations Officer of the group, Sylvanus Nana Kumi.

According to the NGO, it was a big shame that in this age when the world had become a global village where all peoples and religions were transcending all borders, some groups and individuals continued to pursue selfish, egotistical, parochial and tunnel-minded aspirations which had led them to destroy humanity.

It described the recent attacks and others of their kind as effusions of people with questionable psychological constitution.

It was in that light that ATI commended the Norwegian authorities for the way they had handled the issue so far.

It said although the confessed terrorist used force instead of reason to settle scores, his civilized society made reason triumph over barbarity and monstrous brutality by putting him on trial in a competent court of law.

It appealed to all Norwegians to stay calm, resolute and focused while investigations continued.

ATI expressed its condolences to the bereaved families and asked them to stand firm and united in the force of a common enemy—terrorism.
