8 February 2011

High-riding Bukola Babes of Ilorin managed to salvage a point against bottom team in the Nigeria Premier League JUTH FC two minutes from time.

Abdulkadir Aminu’s tap-in inside the six-yard box in the 88th minute of a highly entertaining duel Monday meant Bukola Babes dropped to fourth spot with 24 points, but still preserved their seven-game unbeaten run.

The ever-impressive Bukola Babes right back Cletus James Promise wore the skipper’s armband in this match played at his birth place of Kaduna.

“We warned the players against underrating any team and we almost paid dearly for that,” said a very relieved Bukola Babes coach, Festus Allen, after the match.

Ghanaian striker James Amankwei struck twice late in the first half to give struggling JUTH hope of a rare victory.

However, Bukola Babes fought back in the second half to pull a goal back on 58 minutes through Abdulkadir Aminu, who will go on to net the late face-saving equaliser.

“We have some problems in the defence and this was not helped by injuries to some of our key defenders,” moaned a deflated JUTH coach, Tunde Abdulrahman.

“We hope that in the second round of the league we will fortify the squad.”

JUTH thus remained at the foot of the table with nine points from 12 matches.
