ABOUT two months after Vanguard exclusively reported the death of militant leader,\u00a0 \u201cGeneral\u201d John Togo, in a crossfire with the Joint Task Force, JTF, spokesman of his group, Niger-Delta Liberation Force, NDLF, \u201cCaptain\u201d Mark Anthony, at last, confirmed his demise, weekend.<\/p>\n

\u00a0When Vanguard broke the news of Togo\u2019s death, the JTF debunked the story, but the task force exhumed the remains from where they were buried, few days after, at his abandoned militant camp and took them to the Central Hospital, Warri, in Delta State, probably for a DNA test. The militant group also denied the death of its leader.<\/p>\n

\u00a0But in a press statement, the group\u2019s spokesman said, \u201dThe leadership of Niger Delta Liberation Force (NDLF)\u00a0 hereby , with pains and tears, confirms the death of the Niger Delta hero and revolutionary soldier, General John Togo, the leader and general commander of NDLF.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u201c General\u201d John Togo died during a shoot-out with JTF soldiers and buried on the 12th of May, 2011 in Israel Barrack\u2019s cemetery\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u00a0According to him, \u201cGeneral John Togo declared fresh oil war on the Federal Government after one year of presidential amnesty on\u00a0 November 16, 2010 when the government of Nigeria betrayed the Niger Delta ex-militants on the promises of late President, Umaru Yar\u2019Adua on developmental issues in Niger Delta. After one year, the entire amnesty programme is obviously narrowed down to only youths training and monthly payment of ex-militants without clear blueprint on development\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u00a0He said NDLF demands were and remain creation of two or more additional states in Niger Delta; abolishing of military land use decree; equal sharing formula of oil and gas wealth; and massive infrastructural development in Niger Delta\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
