As the future of Tottenham star Luka Modric continues to look uncertain – with Chelsea still chasing the Croat – his manager Harry Redknapp has sung the midfielder’s praises for his professional attitude.

The Blues have had a bid of £23 million turned down for the Spurs star and while Redknapp’s team have already started their pre-season campaign, the White Hart Lane boss claims the midfielder’s has not let his standards slip.

“His attitude has been first class. He has got on with it,” Redknapp said to Sky Sports News.

“There would be players when they have wanted to move that really wouldn’t have wanted to be playing today and not giving 100 per cent.

“But he only knows one way to play. He is a fantastic boy and a great professional.

“He worked hard today and his attitude couldn’t be better.”

It was team-mate Rafael van der Vaart who stole the show as Spurs won 3-0 against Orlando Pirates and Redknapp admitted players like the Dutchman are important to the progress his team hope to make.

“We can’t just be selling our best players off,” he added.

“Certain players just have that extra bit of class, like Rafa and Luka. We have some special players and we have to keep special players.

“They make the difference, so we have to keep Luka.”
