The Paramount chief for Kade in the eastern region, Osabarima Agyare Tinadu II has warned against polluting the Birem River in order not to incur the wrath of God.

Osabarima Agyare Tinadu II noted that if pollution on the river does not come to an end greater calamity will befall the people living around the Birem River.

The paramount Chief gave the warning in the wake of the heavy flooding that area has witnessed over the last few days as a result of the overflow-flow River Birem which has ran over its banks and submerge communities in its catchment area including Adankrono, Asuom , Pramkese and Kade

At Adankrono the river has taken over a toll booth which is on high ground including other houses along the river.

River Birem runs through Kyebi, Pramkese, Kade, Akwatia and Oda.

Osabarima Agyare Tinadu II told Adakabre Frimpong Manso on Dwaso Nsem on Adom FM Friday that, human activities against the River and other small streams in the area have accounted for flooding in the area.

He lamented over how some individuals have allegedly diverted the route of River Birem to people’s homes, in order for them to do illegal mining.

Kade which is said to be the third most populous district in the Eastern has Friday as its market day but because the River Birem has taken over the stretch from Kade, making it impossible for people plying to and fro the Kade due to the overflow of the river at Adankrono Bridge.

The Kade Paramount chief however called for preservation of the environment for future generations.

The MP for Kade in the Eastern Region, Ofosu Asamoah has lamented bitterly over how several efforts to get the district offices of NADMO and Fire Service adequately resourced to cater for some of these disasters, but little has been heard from the appropriate authorities.

He said his request for the release of Social Intervention Fund (SIF) to assist the people was never granted, compelling him to personally spend GHC 3,800 for the construction of a bridge at Kade Salvation Army School.

The MP is calling for the immediate supply of relief materials for the people.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Kwaebibirem, Emmanuel Reginald Osae has said the district will release relief materials to the affected communities to compliment what National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) will distribute to the people.

Still in the Eastern region, 50 houses have been submerged at Nkawkaw due to continuous rainfall. The last time it rained heavily in the area according to history it was about 49 years ago.

The MP for Nkawkaw, Seth Agyei Baah said apart from the 50 submerged, 48 other houses have been pulled down by the rains.

The MP said he has presented relief items to the affected communities.

He noted that as of now common funds for first and second quarters have not been released including third quarter.
