Minister of State at the Presidency John Gyetuah has described as a security threat, the current situation where some drivers of Members of Parliament are said to have protested over low salaries.<\/p>\n

Mr. Gyetuah who is also an MP has called on his colleagues to be careful the way they treat their drivers.<\/p>\n

The MP was speaking in an in interview with Adom News on a statement issued to the press by the drivers on the premises of Parliament, indicating that some drivers take home between GH\u00a280.00 and GH\u00a2150.00 a month. The drivers say such meagre salaries only makes life very difficult for them.<\/p>\n

Public Relations Officer for the drivers Mr. Labaran Sulayman, said they do not enjoy any social security contributions neither do they enjoy traveling allowances to support themselves, even though they are always on the move the MP\u2019s even on weekends.<\/p>\n

Mr. Sulayman said several complaints top the Clerk of Parliament yielded no results as he is alleged to have said that the drivers\u2019 engagement by the MP\u2019s was purely a private arrangement with their masters.<\/p>\n

But John Gyetuah described the situation as a security threat since drivers are crucial in the security of MP\u2019s and so should be treated well.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile MP\u2019s for Asante Akyem-North and Fanteakwa; Ayimadu Antwi and Amankwa Asiamah respectively, have called on Government to employ drivers for MP\u2019s since they also play a key role in the national development.<\/p>\n

Fanteakwa MP Asiamah said if DCEs have drivers, he does not understand why MP\u2019s cannot be given the same privilege.<\/p>\n
