{"id":464432,"date":"2011-07-19T12:41:49","date_gmt":"2011-07-19T12:41:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/07\/19\/apply-for-mfez-plots\/"},"modified":"2011-07-19T12:41:49","modified_gmt":"2011-07-19T12:41:49","slug":"apply-for-mfez-plots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/07\/19\/apply-for-mfez-plots\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Apply for MFEZ Plots&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"51.2494481236\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.co.zm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/timeszambia180.jpg\" alt=\"The Times of Zambia (Ndola)\" title=\"Visit The Times of Zambia (Ndola)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>19 July 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>THE Government has called on the Zambian business community to apply for plots in the Chambishi Multi-Facility Economic Zone (MFEZ) to ensure rapid and sustainable economic development.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Lwipa Puma said plots had been reserved by the developers of the Chambishi MFEZ for specific projects, hence the need for Zambians to take advantage and apply for them.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are a lot of opportunities for the Zambians in the Chambishi MFEZ and now that the land has been left for the purpose of the development of specific industries and the local business community can apply for these plots,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Incentives have been put in place to attract investors to the MFEZ in accordance with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Act number 11 of 2006.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview in Lusaka, Dr Puma said the MFEZ was poised to attract investment in the manufacturing sector which would act as means for economic growth, wealth and job creation as well as increased foreign exchange earnings.<\/p>\n<p>The Chambishi MFEZ, with an estimated investment of US$900 million over a period of five years is projected to attract up to 60 enterprises.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Puma said the development would lead to the creation of employment for about 10,000 Zambians once the MFEZ was completed.<\/p>\n<p>He said more than 15 companies, including Chambishi Copper Smelter, Sino Metals Limited and Sino Acid Limited had set base.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;About 4,000 jobs have so far been created in the zone with most of the workers working for Chambishi Copper Smelter and others in the construction of the MFEZ,&#8221; Dr Puma said.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the total committed investment of current investors is about S$1.028 billion, including the west ore body of NFCA and the construction of phase II of Chambishi Copper Smelter.<\/p>\n<p>Zambia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (ZCCZ), which is running the MFEZ, has created about 6,000 job opportunities for the local community.<\/p>\n<p>ZCCZ is the first overseas economic and trade cooperation zone declared by the Chinese government to be established in Africa.
