{"id":460988,"date":"2011-07-14T11:37:52","date_gmt":"2011-07-14T11:37:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/07\/14\/hakizimana-pulls-out-of-military-games\/"},"modified":"2011-07-14T11:37:52","modified_gmt":"2011-07-14T11:37:52","slug":"hakizimana-pulls-out-of-military-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/07\/14\/hakizimana-pulls-out-of-military-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Hakizimana Pulls Out of Military Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"36.9608021878\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newtimes.co.rw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/newtimes180.jpg\" alt=\"The New Times (Kigali)\" title=\"Visit The New Times (Kigali)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bonnie Mugabe<\/p>\n<p>14 July 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>GERVAIS Hakizimana has withdrawn from next week&#8217;s 5th World Military Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil because of a knee injury.<\/p>\n<p>The 3000m steeple chase specialist, who is based in France, told Times Sport that he is undergoing treatment after stretching his right knee tendon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s very painful when you pull out at the last minute after weeks of work hard in training but I want to wish my mates the best of luck,&#8221; a disappointed Hakizimana said.<\/p>\n<p>He will now spend two weeks off the track before resuming training ahead of September&#8217;s World Athletics Championship in Daegu, South Korea.<\/p>\n<p>In his absence, the country&#8217;s hunt for silverware will be spearheaded by two-time Olympian Epiphanie Nyirabarame, Claudette Mukasakindi and Eric Sebahire.<\/p>\n<p>Nyirabarame, who will compete in the half marathon category, will also use the games to fine-tune herself for the forthcoming All Africa Games in Maputo as well as next year&#8217;s Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Both Sebahire (5000m) and Mukasakindi (5000m &#038; 10000m) will be aiming to improve on their personal records so as to qualify for the All Africa Games.<\/p>\n<p>Dieudonne Disi remains the only athlete to scoop a medal at the World Military Games.
