Cries of \u201cAllahu Akbar\u201d [God is great] rang out in the courtroom as sadistic killer Igshaan \u201cGaddafi\u201d Isaacs was locked up for the rest of his days on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The hardened 26 prison gangster showed no remorse as Judge Andre le Grange dramatically sealed his fate just after 11.30am in the Cape High Court.<\/p>\n
Isaacs stood with his head bowed, dressed in his usual Muslim attire as he awaited sentencing. But he would get no mercy from Judge le Grange.<\/p>\n
The no-nonsense judge tore into the notorious killer as he sentenced him to two life terms for the brutal death of his ex-wife Fazlin Arendse, 27, and Moulana Sharief Hendricks, 31.<\/p>\n
\u201cThus far you have killed four persons\u2026 the accused is a danger to the community,\u201d said Le Grange.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the murder of Sharief Hendricks, life.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor the murder of Fazlin Arendse, life.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey were both parents to minor children and in the prime of their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Emotions ran high in the courtroom as the packed gallery awaited the judgement.<\/p>\n
Then came the moment they had been waiting for as the marathon two-month trial finally drew to an end.<\/p>\n
As soon as the judge uttered the word \u201clife\u201d, the courtroom burst into spontaneous applause.<\/p>\n
Tears flowed as Isaacs\u2019 victims\u2019 families hugged each other openly at the realisation that their ordeal had finally came to an end.<\/p>\n
Isaacs, 48, now faces the rest of his life behind bars.<\/p>\n
He will serve a minimum of 25 years before he is even entitled to a parole hearing.<\/p>\n
Even then \u2013 given Gaddafi\u2019s record of appalling crimes \u2013 he is highly unlikely to be considered for release.<\/p>\n
Isaacs was sentenced to 25 years each, to run concurrently, for the murders of his estranged wife and Moulana Sharief in Beacon Valley, Mitchell\u2019s Plain, on June 22 last year.<\/p>\n
Judge Le Grange also sentenced Isaacs to three years for assaulting Fazlin on April 15 last year plus seven years for kidnapping her on the same day.<\/p>\n
An additional two years were added for contravening a protection order.<\/p>\n
And he was hit with another six years for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.<\/p>\n
Le Grange quoted from the Holy Qur\u2019an as he delivered his damning verdict.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the Qur\u2019an it is frowned upon, the taking of a life: \u201cWie \u2019n mens se lewe ontneem\u2026 dan is dit asof hy die hele mensedom ontneem. [He who takes a life, takes all of mankind].<\/p>\n
\u201cIn your religion, a man is to care and protect his wife but you failed at this.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further said Isaacs never proved with witnesses or evidence that Sharief and Fazlin were having an affair.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week it was revealed Isaacs, who is a father to 10 children, stabbed his cousin, Nariema Dollie, to death in July 1988, in Mitchell\u2019s Plain, because she refused to be his wife and have his unborn child.<\/p>\n
The victims\u2019 families sat next to each other throughout sentencing.<\/p>\n
Fazlin\u2019s mother Fatima van Stavel, Sharief\u2019s sister Washiela Parker, and his wife Zubaidah hugged each other in tears as Isaacs was led away for the last time.<\/p>\n
Amidst all the emotion, Fatima afterwards showed incredible forgiveness towards the man who so brutally ended her daughter\u2019s life.<\/p>\n
She said she could now forgive Isaacs for what he did , saying only Allah could judge and that her daughter could now finally rest in peace.<\/p>\n
\u201cNou kan sy rus (Now she can rest),\u201d Fatima tells the Daily Voice.<\/p>\n
\u201cBefore Fazlin died she promised me she would put him away for life and she accomplished this \u2013 even though she paid with her life.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have forgiven him a long time ago, I cannot punish him, I am not God.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fazlin\u2019s father Abdurahman Arendse said he was grateful to the Judge, prosecutor Advocate Evadne Kortje and investigating officer Detective Errol Bedford and everyone for their support.<\/p>\n
Sharief\u2019s wife Zubaidah said she was surprised and relieved.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am relieved because he won\u2019t come out again to do this again\u2026 I didn\u2019t expect life and I am satisfied.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Waheeb Isaacs, 24, a community member, said Isaacs\u2019 head would have been chopped off in a country ruled by strict Islamic laws.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Qur\u2019an says if you take a life, then your life must be taken\u2026 an eye for an eye. If this had to be according to a Muslim country, his head would have been chopped off.\u201d<\/p>\n
Isaacs\u2019 daughter Adiebah 27, and other relatives refused to comment to the media and showed very little emotion as Isaacs\u2019 fate was sealed.<\/p>\n
Fazlin\u2019s other siblings, Aslam, Adiel and Faadia were present at court.<\/p>\n
