This year, we are investing $1b in Nigeria to achieve our objectives of providing world class service to Nigerians.”

According to him the investment is necessary in order to reach out to some rural dwellers that have been neglected by other networks.

Bharti Airtel took over the network exactly a year ago from Zain and since then has assured its commitment in the network expansion.

He said in the last one year the company has been doing well. “I think we are able to get some share of the market, I am very happy about that, also considering the number of challenges, we believe that as we go far, we will get a better and better share of the market”.

He explained that Airtel Networks has focused on innovation, enhanced customer service and upgrading network quality over the last one year.

Swaroop said Airtel has provided telecom subscribers in Nigeria with value added products that promote freedom of choice. “Already, we have launched some ground-breaking services and products, which are now redefining the Nigerian telecommunications market. I believe some of you are already enjoying our 2Good, 2Good Extra, Easy Recharge, Big Family and the latest, MAMO (My Airtel; My Offer).

“We have not only provided our customers with a wider choice of value-adding products and services, we have also deepened the competition in the market place, and the customers are definitely the better for it.”

Airtel Networks has continued in Nigeria its tested and proven business process outsourcing (BPO) framework, Swaroop stated. It has deployed BPO to manage both the network and customer service operations. Airtel outsourced network management to Huauwei and Ericsson.

Swaroop added, “in the past nine months, we have recruited additional 1300 Call Centre Agents bringing the total capacity to 2100 through our partners, Spanco and Tech Mahindra.

In respect of the recent labour crisis in one of the call centres in Abuja, the Vice President, Corporate Communications, Mr. Emeka Oparah said “the staff concerned are not Airtel’s staff; they are staff of our partners, who provide BPO services to Airtel and other firms. However, Airtel has ensured that all concerns are duly addressed.”

<fieldset>
<legend align="center">More News on allAfrica.com</legend>
</fieldset>

AllAfrica – All the Time

Original post:
Airtel Increases Local Investment to U.S.$1 Billion

Hamisu Muhammad 4 July 2011 Airtel Networks Nigeria has spent US$1 billion (about N150 billion) on network expansion and facility upgrade in the country, Chief Executive Officer, Rajan Swaroop has said.
