{"id":453041,"date":"2011-07-04T09:47:28","date_gmt":"2011-07-04T09:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/07\/04\/mariental-residents-to-pay-more-for-services\/"},"modified":"2011-07-04T09:47:28","modified_gmt":"2011-07-04T09:47:28","slug":"mariental-residents-to-pay-more-for-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/07\/04\/mariental-residents-to-pay-more-for-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Mariental Residents to Pay More for Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"46.1035184647\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.namibian.com.na\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/namibian180.jpg\" alt=\"The Namibian (Windhoek)\" title=\"Visit The Namibian (Windhoek)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Luqman Cloete<\/p>\n<p>30 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>MARIENTAL residents will have to dig deeper into their pockets after the town council approved a water tariff hike of 16 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The increase was announced when the council approved its N$46,5 million budget.<\/p>\n<p>The council made provision in its budget to increase its electricity tariff by an estimated 18,5 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The council generates the bulk of its income from electricity sales projected at N$32,2 million, representing 69,2 per cent of its total income.<\/p>\n<p>Other price hikes include the assessment rates which went up by 3,54 per cent, sewerage with a three per cent increase and refuse removal, which also went up by three per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the hefty tariff hikes, Mariental municipality chief executive officer Paul Nghiwilepo said the water and electricity tariff increases were made in line with increases by the bulk suppliers &#8211; NamPower and NamWater.<\/p>\n<p>A budget surplus of N$390 446 is projected, while N$ 46,2 million is budgeted for expenditure.<\/p>\n<p>An estimated N$11,6 million, equivalent to 21,7 per cent of the operational budget, will be used to foot the council&#8217;s wage bill.<\/p>\n<p>The budget also reveals that the council has approved salary increases of between three and 13 per cent for its staff.<\/p>\n<p>The council has budgeted N$6,3 million for capital projects and the amount will be sourced from its own funds.<\/p>\n<p>Out of the capital projects budget, N$4,3 million will be used to upgrade an electricity sub-station.<\/p>\n<p>The mayor of Mariental, Alex Kamburute, said the budget would be used prudently and to the benefit of the town and its residents.<\/p>\n<p>The approved budget comes into effect on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<fieldset>\n<legend align=\"center\"><strong>More News on allAfrica.com<\/strong><\/legend>\n<\/fieldset>\n<p>AllAfrica &#8211; All the Time<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Link:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/stories\/201107040785.html\" title=\"Mariental Residents to Pay More for Services\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mariental Residents to Pay More for Services<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Luqman Cloete 30 June 2011 MARIENTAL residents will have to dig deeper into their pockets after the town council approved a water tariff hike of 16 per cent.
