Akrasi Sarpong and Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Yaw Akrasi Sarpong, threw decency to the wind when he told New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, to give him \u201ca fucking break\u201d on a live radio programme.<\/p>\n

Following his recent claims that his outfit had intelligence reports that politicians used money accrued from the drug business to run campaigns in the country, more and more people, particularly members of the NPP, have described Mr. Akrasi Sarpong\u2019s comment as propaganda aimed at pleasing the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), of which he is a member.<\/p>\n

For instance, NPP National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, challenged the NACOB boss to provide evidence to support his claims and avoid speaking loosely, while Nana Obiri Boahene, a former Minister of State at the Ministry of Interior under Ex-President John Kufuor, described Mr. Akrasi Sarpong\u2019s comment as \u201cunpalatable and irresponsible\u201d.<\/p>\n

As if that was not enough, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, who served as Ghana\u2019s Ambassador to Serbia under Ex-President Kufuor, called for the head of Mr. Akrasi Sarpong for talking loosely and not providing a shred of evidence of politicians who were aiding drug barons.<\/p>\n

An incensed Akrasi Sarpong, reacting to Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe\u2019s challenge, exploded on Asempa FM<\/em> and said the NPP man was a \u201cshameless\u201d person who should \u201cgive me a fucking break\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said he was not bothered by what Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe and others thought of him since he was aware that his position as NACOB boss was not a permanent one, adding that as a pharmacist, he was capable of securing a job if he was sacked from the board.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs for whether I deserve this post or not, it has nothing to do with this. I am a pharmacist so if they want me to proceed on leave, I can leave. I know this is not a permanent job or position and indeed no experienced person comes here and stays for long\u2026Mr. Quantson, Gen. Baiden, Mr. Ayalingo (all former NACOB Executive Secretaries), have all served their duties and they were more experienced than me, but it is the President\u2019s wisdom that I am here, not his (Tamakloe\u2019s) choice,\u201d he emphasized angrily.<\/p>\n

Mr. Akrasi Sarpong then started accusing Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe of initiating behind the scenes moves to have his son, Ellis Tamakloe, who is serving jail term for attempted exportation of cannabis, released.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a shameless person. Has he forgotten the time when his son\u2019s name was smuggled into the list of people that were going to be released or freed? Has he forgotten the person behind the scene? Your son has been jailed and you go begging people and contacting people, asking as if they can help his son out; he should give me a fucking break\u2026I mean he should give me a break,\u201d he fumed.<\/p>\n

He made it clear that Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe\u2019s son would never be released but would serve the full term in prison, and asked Dr. Tamakloe to wait till his government came to power so he could take over the narcotics board and free his son.<\/p>\n
