Gyedu Blay Ambolley<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Ghana\u2019s multi-talented and internationally celebrated musician Gyedu Blay Ambolley has launched a full blast campaign to become the next President of Ghana\u2019s musicians union.<\/p>\n

NEWS-ONE<\/em><\/strong> had an exclusive interview with him over his presidential ambitions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI m not sure I am the one to mention who my competitors are but just so I answer you, I am aware that Willie Roy wants it, Nana Tuffour wants it and \u00a0Obour\u00a0 also wants the job but I know I am the best person for that position now.\u201d<\/p>\n

What Makes You Stand Tall?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI have the passion for music and the welfare of musicians, plus the experience for the top job. You know I have been the vice President before and in our days, a lot of positive things were achieved. I have been with the union since 1975. I became vice president from 1979 to 1988 before I moved to the States. So I have enough experience to run the affairs of musicians<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been in music too long not to know the problems and challenges musicians face and how to tackle them. I would not be blowing my trumpet if I say MUSIGA needs me now. We need a President with international links all over the world and that is Ambolley.<\/p>\n

\u201cI released \u2018Simigwa\u2019<\/em> in 1973 and have since remained in top form that is why till date I do collaborations with the young ones. I just did a collaboration with Eazzy of Links Entertainment. I\u2019ve done collaborations with Tic-Tac, Sway and several other young ones. I best serve all groups and, as I said, I would merge the old and the young.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe young ones see the old ones as old schools. I\u2019m the one who stands between the young ones, most of whom are the rappers, and the old folks. The rappers know that I\u2019m their master. When you talk about rap, they know I started it all in Ghana. You know, they know it\u2019s me and so they feel me and I also feel them. The older generation knows that I rock shoulders with them as well. So I am the one who is capable of bridging the gap and bringing them all together. I will make sure that I do that. The young ones who are upcoming; we will teach them the business side of the job. We will set up workshops and seminars to help upgrade them. There can also be whole lots of collaboration between the young and old because they can learn from each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

YOUR GOAL<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhenever anything good comes, only Accra and Kumasi musicians enjoy the benefits, so I am going to empower the regions. Culturally, the other regions are strong than us in the southern part. I am going to work with them heavily.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is an urgent need for regional integration and this would be one of the core issues of my presidency if I win because it has led to the neglect of musicians in other regions of Ghana.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has remained by dream to establish an endowment fund to help support older musicians, who have contributed to the growth of the industry but are no longer performing. We must insist that musicians make their copyright gains as due them. Therefore my administration will collaborate with radio stations and other users of music properties to do the right thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

FRESH BRAINS ARE NEEDED<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cExperience is the best teacher but I hope you are not implying that older guys cannot generate fresh ideas. That would be misleading because I am not a young boy but I am still generating very fresh ideas. The young ones too may have fresh ideas all right but we beat them with the experience we have. The younger ones need to be taught, they need to be educated and they need to be informed, so that they will use their strength to fight forward. That is exactly what I want to do when I come.<\/p>\n

\u201cMUSIGA\u2019s presidency is a very serious task and comes with a lot of challenge, therefore it is always best to put somebody who knows the business, who has traveled, knows what is going on outside and bringing it back home and impacting it on the younger ones. We need to put the structures right.\u201d<\/p>\n

ELECTORAL COLLEGE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWell, I do not want to go there but as you said, it is true that some of us have not seen the voters register that would be used for the August 16 elections. I am one of the candidates yet to see the voters register but I do not want to slight anyone here so let us just hope the right thing is being done so we do not create grounds for unnecessary suspicions or speculations.\u201d<\/p>\n
