{"id":452038,"date":"2011-07-01T13:50:12","date_gmt":"2011-07-01T13:50:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/07\/01\/country-becomes-the-116th-state-to-join-the-icc\/"},"modified":"2011-07-01T13:50:12","modified_gmt":"2011-07-01T13:50:12","slug":"country-becomes-the-116th-state-to-join-the-icc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/07\/01\/country-becomes-the-116th-state-to-join-the-icc\/","title":{"rendered":"Country Becomes the 116th State to Join the ICC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"24.9313131313\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hirondelle.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hirondelle News Agency<\/a> (Lausanne)<\/p>\n<p>27 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>The Hague \u2014 Tunisia became on June 24 the 116th State Party at the International Criminal Court (ICC).<\/p>\n<p>The Rome Statute which governs the ICC will enter into force on September 1, 2011, allowing the court to judge genocide, crimes against humanity and crimes of war committed after this date.<\/p>\n<p>Tunisia could have requested that the Statute be effective retroactively starting July 2002 but didn&#8217;t ask for it.<\/p>\n<p>Tunisia is the 32nd African State to join the ICC system, and the fourth member of the Arab League.<\/p>\n<p>The President of the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, Ambassador Christian Wenaweser, declared in a statement that &#8220;Tunisia&#8217;s accession to the Rome Statute is also a testament of the profound changes brought about by the &#8216;Arab Spring&#8217; which started in Tunisia.
