Lagos \u2013 Three former employees of Wema Bank Plc were on Thursday charged before an Ebute-Meta Chief\u00a0 Magistrates\u2019 Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N34.3 million belonging to the bank.<\/p>\n

The accused were a former accountant, a cashier and an internal control manager of the Wema Homes (Savings and Loans) Ltd, a subsidiary of the bank.<\/p>\n

The accused, Taorid Lasisi, 41, Folorunsho Adeoye, 29, and Oyewunmi Akinyemi, 33, are standing trial before Chief Magistrate Christiana Adesola-Ikpatt on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor, ASP Innocent Effiong, said that the accused, with others still at large, allegedly stole the money between 2008 and 2009 at the bank\u2019s premises at No 65A Opebi Road, Ikeja.<\/p>\n

Effiong further told the court that Lasisi allegedly connived with Adeoye and Akinyemi to make several withdrawals from the bank\u2019s funds without the bank\u2019s authority.<\/p>\n

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 390 (6) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State and punishable with seven years\u2019 imprisonment on conviction.<\/p>\n

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.<\/p>\n

Adesola-Ikpatt granted them bail in the sum of N3 million each with two sureties in like sum.<\/p>\n

She said that the sureties must be blood relations of the accused persons.<\/p>\n

The case was also adjourned till Aug. 26 for further hearing. (NAN)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
