As a board, we call on the family to consider whether two strokes on the buttocks of an undisciplined boy indeed constitutes assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The MD further said the school board &#8220;is of the opinion that the criminal court process may inflict more enduring and far greater psychological harm on the child and the family&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>According to her, children should not be subjected to the harsh environment of the criminal justice system at an early age.<\/p>\n<p>However, she charged, the board &#8220;will defend the actions of its teachers and the reputation of the school if the conduct of the teachers was in line with board policy and should it become necessary to do so in any court of law&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Rieckert earlier alleged that the matter was dealt with internally. She claimed that it was found that &#8220;there were no grounds&#8221; to either suspend or fire any of the teachers said to be involved. &#8220;We finalised the matter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Seemingly aiming a blow at the complainants, Rieckert yesterday said: &#8220;As in many homes, a hiding is generally used as a last resort. It may become necessary in isolated cases, particularly where parents neglect their duty to provide their children with proper discipline.
