In the Johannesburg magistrate’s court Friday, state witness Kalia Mubarak is due to wrap up evidence in the trial of six foreign nationals accused of trying to assassinate former Rwandan General Faustin Kayamba Nyamwasa.<\/p>\n

There have been a series of delays in that trial that began this week.<\/p>\n

Nyamwasa, once a confidante of Rwandan leader Paul Kagame, sought refuge in South Africa when he fell out with his erstwhile friend.<\/p>\n

He was shot and wounded outside his Johannesburg home a year ago.<\/p>\n

The incident bruised bilateral relations between South Africa and Rwanda.<\/p>\n

Nyamwasa, who abandoned his job as Rwanda’s ambassador to India, is wanted on terrorism charges in his home country and is also wanted internationally for war crimes.<\/p>\n

In the Johannesburg magistrate’s court this week language barriers, illness and equipment malfunction have caused one delay after another.<\/p>\n

Just as it seemed everything was on track on Thursday, the high-profile case involving nationals from Rwanda, Egypt, Somalia, Tanzania and Mozambique was again postponed because the magistrate said he was ill.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, state witness Kalisa Mubarak testified that Rwandan soldiers from Europe wanted a Rwandan military man in South Africa dead.<\/p>\n

He said he was not sure who they were referring to.<\/p>\n

Mubarak will wrap up his testimony when the case resumes Friday.<\/p>\n
