{"id":451331,"date":"2011-07-01T00:28:32","date_gmt":"2011-07-01T00:28:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/07\/01\/225-families-of-slain-injured-policemen-get-n87-4m-insurance-benefits\/"},"modified":"2011-07-01T00:28:32","modified_gmt":"2011-07-01T00:28:32","slug":"225-families-of-slain-injured-policemen-get-n87-4m-insurance-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/07\/01\/225-families-of-slain-injured-policemen-get-n87-4m-insurance-benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"225 families of slain, injured policemen get N87.4m insurance benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"90\">\n<p><strong>BY IKECHUKWU NNOCHIRI<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ABUJA-Families of 225 slain and injured police officers yesterday benefitted from the Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme to the tune of N87.4 million.<\/p>\n<p>Among them was a gallant mobile police officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ugocha Pascal Ifeanyi, attached to PMF 51, Oghara, Delta State, who on December 13, 2010, took on three armed robbers in Awka, Anambra State, and killed them after they shot him on the thigh of his left leg. He recovered two AK 47 rifles and one K2 rifle from the robbers.<\/p>\n<p>The officer, who was sent on special duty to Anambra State on \u201cOperation Ihe\u201d, following the upsurge in kidnapping activities in the South East in 2010, during the tenure of former IG, Ogbona Onovo, was presented with a cheque of N150,000 under the title, \u201cPersonal Disability\u201d for SPO\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Narrating his ordeal to Vanguard, DSP Ugocha said:\u00a0 \u201cOn December 13, 2010, I left Awka Police HQ for a prayer session at the Prayer and Praise Ministry, located along Ojoto\/Nnewi expressway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn getting there, at about 6.47pm, as I pulled out my car to park, an 18 seater L300 model bus blocked me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstantly, three men alighted, brandishing military assault rifles-2 AK 47 and one K2 rifles. They ordered me to surrender my car key to them. I demanded to know their identities.<\/p>\n<p>In the scuffle that ensued, the other robber placed his AK 47 rifle on my left thigh and fired. At that point, I fell down, brought out my pistol, opened fire and killed three of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Disclosing that he was still recuperating from the wound inflicted on his thigh by the bullet, DSP Ugocha said the 4th person, who was shouting \u201cthis man is not ordinary person\u201d escaped with bullet wound.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Comments are moderated.
