Kampala \u2014 Annet Negesa continued her build-up to the World Athletics Championships due August 27 to September 4 in South Korea by easing to victory in an 800m race at Namboole on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Africa junior champion won the two-lap race in two minutes, 3.6 seconds during the Central Region Championship. Bombo’s Halima Nakaayi was second in 2:10.5 followed by Winnie Nanyondo of Rwenzori club.<\/p>\n

Emilly Nanziri was, meanwhile, outstanding in the women’s sprints, winning the 400m and 200m in 55.1 and 24.0 seconds respectively. Ali Ngaimoko stood out in the men’s sprints, claiming victory in the 200m (21.2) and 400m (46.8).<\/p>\n

The revelation of the day though was Juliet Nassali, a primary five pupil, who defeated more experienced foes in the women’s 5000m. Nassali, 16, clocked 17:52.1, beating Africa Youth Championships bronze medallist Catherine Lometo (17:58.1) to second.<\/p>\n
