Members of an FCT Administration\u2019s special taskforce yesterday morning invaded Mabushi village in Abuja and destroyed all the shanties in the place.<\/p>\n

The officials also arrested more than 15 women for alleged prostitution.<\/p>\n

One of the taskforce members said they were moving around Mabushi when they saw the women running and pursued them.<\/p>\n

He said they were being taken to the Special Anti Robbery Squad\u2019s (SARS) office for further interrogations.<\/p>\n

FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services head, retired Major Adamu Argungu, said Mabushi was raided because of the environmental hazards it constitutes if left unattended to.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided to get rid of criminalities going on in the area by removing all street hawkers and women of easy virtues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the exercise was carried to other parts of Abuja, adding that traffic offenders, Keke NAPEP and Okada operators at illegal routes, were also apprehended.<\/p>\n

Also reacting, head of SARS, Chief Superintendent Ben Igweh, said the taskforce members are working to make Abuja a safer place for everybody.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also arresting suspected prostitutes and criminals everywhere in Abuja, especially in\u00a0 areas where there are shanties and Mabushi or its environs are not left out,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
