\"\"<\/a>Alcatel Lucent, the Paris-based telecoms solution provider has announced an innovative product that it says would revolutionise the Internet.<\/p>\n

In a press release issued June 28, 2011 and copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, the company says it has by the product known as \u2018FP3\u2019, unlocked the potential for radical new Internet applications and services. The technology, it says has been hailed as \u2018the key to greater capacity, faster connections and reduced congestion on the web.\u2019<\/p>\n

According to Alcatel Lucent, the next-generation chip will dramatically enhance the infrastructure needed to access rich new online services, \u201cfrom broadcast-quality high-definition video conferencing to applications in the business and professional world.\u201d The \u2018FP3\u2019 chip, it says, \u201cwill eliminate the bottlenecks preventing such services from taking off today, widening the Internet\u2019s digital highways while enabling dramatically higher data speeds and improving traffic flow.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company adds that, the chip will also lower the energy consumption of networks, requiring up to 50 percent less power than equivalent chips in use today.<\/p>\n

The CEO of Alcatel Lucent, Ben Verwaayen was quoted in the release as saying: \u201cThis is the key to unlock a new world of online communications. It\u2019s easy to think the Internet of today does all it will ever be capable of, but we have scarcely scratched the surface of its potential. This chip creates tremendous potential, not just in terms of technology, but in terms of how people connect and interact with each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAlcatel-Lucent is broadening the possibilities, the value and the efficiency of what can be delivered over the Internet. We have taken a major step forward in the ability of service providers to deliver exciting and compelling applications for use by consumers and professionals alike,\u201d Basil Alwan, President of Alcatel-Lucent\u2019s IP Division which developed the chip, was also cited to have said.<\/p>\n

According to the release, major telecoms operators, including BT, NTT and Verizon have welcomed Alcatel-Lucent\u2019s announcement and \u2018FP3\u2032s potential to enable faster, smarter and greener networks and applications.<\/p>\n
