{"id":450013,"date":"2011-06-29T09:20:49","date_gmt":"2011-06-29T09:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/06\/29\/zimbabwe-blood-donation-to-intensify\/"},"modified":"2011-06-29T09:20:49","modified_gmt":"2011-06-29T09:20:49","slug":"zimbabwe-blood-donation-to-intensify","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/06\/29\/zimbabwe-blood-donation-to-intensify\/","title":{"rendered":"Zimbabwe: Blood Donation to Intensify"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"34.2108605907\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.herald.co.zw\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/herald180.jpg\" alt=\"The Herald (Harare)\" title=\"Visit The Herald (Harare)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>29 June 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Blood donation is set to increase after the National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) established more collection entries to mitigate blood shortages in the country.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview recently, planning, information and research manager, Emmanuel Masvikeni, said blood reserves in the country were meeting the bulk of their needs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Blood reserves at the moment are enough, however, we have intensified blood donation by putting up more collection entries, which are in the Central Business District (CBD), Chitungwiza and Hwange,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, public relations officer, Ms Esther Massundah, said they have also set up mobile teams for Harare as part of efforts to improve bloodstocks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have established more additional mobile teams for Harare which has improved our donor retention especially for the CBD,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The national blood provider has set up a Pledge 25 Club that donates blood regularly.<\/p>\n<p>This club represents the pledge that members have made to donate blood 25 times in their lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>Statistics indicate that youths contribute about 70 percent of the total blood collected by NBSZ and the balance comes from adults.<\/p>\n<p>About 80 percent of the blood is transfused to adults and the balance is left for the youths.<\/p>\n<p>According to World Health Organisation (WHO) only one to three percent regular donors are needed to ensure adequate blood reserves.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<fieldset>\n<legend align=\"center\"><strong>More News on allAfrica.com<\/strong><\/legend>\n<\/fieldset>\n<p>AllAfrica &#8211; All the Time<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Read More:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/stories\/201106290402.html\" title=\"Zimbabwe: Blood Donation to Intensify\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zimbabwe: Blood Donation to Intensify<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> 29 June 2011 Blood donation is set to increase after the National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) established more collection entries to mitigate blood shortages in the country.
