The National Peace Council (NPC) has congratulated former President John Agyekum Kufuor on his recent international award for the promotion of food security and reduction of poverty in Ghana.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe heartily congratulate the former President, Mr J. A. Kufuor on this enviable award. We believe that the relative peace that prevailed in the country during his tenure as President of the Republic of Ghana had been a great contributory factor for this achievement\u201d, it said.<\/p>\n
The acting Chairman of the NPC, Maulvi Dr Wahab Adam, extended the council\u2019s message of congratulations to the former<\/p>\n
President through the Daily Graphic.
He said it must be recognised that the services rendered by the NPC in promoting peace in the country had been tremendous and might have also contributed to the achievement of the former President.<\/p>\n
Maulvi Dr Adam, who is also the Ameer and Missionary in charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, also expressed appreciation to the Mills administration for issuing a statement to appreciate former President Kufuor for winning the award.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the kind of gesture that promotes harmony and peace in the country\u201d, he indicated, adding that by acknowledging the merit of the former President and publicly declaring it despite political differences, the Mills administration had demonstrated a good sense of magnanimity.<\/p>\n
He said this should be a useful lesson that politics was just about a contest and not fighting and so there was the need for political opponents to tolerate one another\u2019s views.<\/p>\n
Maulvi Dr Adam expressed the hope that now that the National Peace Council Bill had been passed into law, the council would receive the requisite support from all stakeholders to make its work smooth and successful.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
