Maputo \u2014 Mozambique Airlines (LAM) will prioritise hiring members of the armed forces (FADM) to fill gaps in its staff, the company’s chairperson, Teodaro Waty, announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n

He was speaking after LAM had received from the Ministry of Defence five pilots and four flight engineers, who had been trained in Ethiopia. They had attended a pilots’ course, and had received training for periods ranging from 18 months to 30 months.<\/p>\n

Waty said that, although they were members of the armed forces, the training of these pilots and flight engineers was financed by LAM, under an agreement with the Ministry of Defence.<\/p>\n

Waty said that the military pilots will begin their activities in LAM as co-pilots on propeller-driven planes. Later, if they meet the requirements laid down by the civil aviation authorities, they will pilot jet planes.<\/p>\n

At the Thursday ceremony, the pilots promised to use the knowledge acquired during their training to bring credit to the FADM, and to the Mozambican nation in general.<\/p>\n

They remain tied to the FADM, and the work at LAM will allow them to gain more flying experience, and reward the company for the investment made in their training.<\/p>\n
