SOME NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) youth in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region on Monday staged a massive demonstration against the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Kingsley Ahuna-Armah, for causing financial loss to the assembly.<\/p>\n
According to the demonstrators, the assembly had lost a whopping sum of GH\u00a2387,000 due to improper administrative procedures and the DCE\u2019s negligence.<\/p>\n
The demonstration, which started around 9.00am through the principal streets of Gomoa Pomadze, to Asebu, ended around 11.00am.
The irate youth wore red bands as others held placards, some of which read, \u201cDCE close your zip\u201d, \u201cOne queen bottom cost the DCE 45million\u201d, \u201cAhuna-Armah the sex machine\u201d, \u201cDCE resign before you will be disgraced\u201d and \u201cDCE you area killing the party\u201d, among others.<\/p>\n
The demonstration nearly turned bloody when supporters of the DCE also stormed the party office to clash with the demonstrators, preventing the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Ekow Panyin Okyere, from entering the party office to receive the petition.<\/p>\n
The MP therefore had no option but to position himself about a hundred metres away from the party office to receive the petition. It took the firing of tear gas by the Winneba Police Command to disperse the two groups, with each group throwing stones and sticks at the other in the melee.<\/p>\n
As at the time of filing this report, two of the demonstrators were on admission at the Winneba Government Hospital. Presenting the petition to Ekow Okyere, the spokesperson for the group calling itself \u2018Concerned Youth Association of NDC\u2019, Adams Seidu, said the demonstration was a follow-up to the petition copied to the Central Regional Minister, Comfort Ama Benyiwa Doe, and the Regional Chairman, on issues pertaining to misappropriation of funds at the assembly.<\/p>\n
Mr. Seidu stated that although some of the staff members, after their arrests, were standing trial at Agona Swedru Circuit Court, they did not understand why the District Finance Officer (DFO), who was also a signatory to the cheque, was allowed to go scot-free.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe the missing amount is good enough to construct a 3-6 unit classroom block to curtail the stress which school pupils are going through in sitting under trees to forward the President\u2019s better Ghana agenda,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The group therefore called on the President to, as a matter of urgency, sack the DCE for gross misconduct and lack of proper supervision, as well as causing financial loss to the Gomoa East District.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
