ZIMBABWE’S Mighty Warriors will play their opening fixture in the 2011 Cosafa Women’s Championships against Lesotho at Gwanzura in a Group A encounter on July 2.<\/p>\n

The draw saw Zimbabwe being thrown into the same group as Lesotho, Mozambique and Malawi.<\/p>\n

Group B features South Africa, Zambia, Botswana and Tanzania and matches will be played at Rufaro.<\/p>\n

Each country will play the other in a round-robin format, with the top two sides in each pool advancing to the semi-finals.<\/p>\n

The winners in the knockout stages will compete in the Final for the trophy, while the losers will play for bronze in a third-place play-off.<\/p>\n

The semi-finals will be played on July 7 at Rufaro, while the third-place play-off and the final will be on July 9 at the same venue.<\/p>\n

The 2011 event will be the fourth time the Cosafa Women’s Championship has been staged.<\/p>\n

The first was held in Zimbabwe in 2002 and was won by South Africa, who beat their hosts 2-1 in the final.<\/p>\n

Four years later and the South Africans triumphed again at the finals in Zambia, when they beat Namibia 3-1 in the decider.<\/p>\n

South Africa made it three in a row when they beat Zimbabwe in the finals of the 2008 tournament in Malange, Angola.<\/p>\n

The groups for the 2011 Cosafa Women’s Championship were drawn on Friday, with some fantastic match-ups on the cards.<\/p>\n

The regional show-piece tournament will be played in Harare from July 2-9 and will feature eight sides, split into two groups of four teams each.<\/p>\n

Tanzania have received a special invitation from Cosafa to take part in the competition.<\/p>\n
