LAGOS-As the race for the chairmanship of the People Democratic Party PDP intensifies, the North East caucus of the party\u00a0\u00a0 has embarked on\u00a0 lobbying\u00a0 the south west\u00a0 over the position which the party has zoned to the North East\u00a0 even as there are indications that the area is divided over its choice of candidate for the position.<\/p>\n

Until few days ago, second republic governor of the old Gongola State cum business man Alhaji Bamanga Tukur , was favored as the suitable candidate from the zone but the entrance of former minister of commerce, Ambassador Idris Waziri\u00a0 from Taraba State might have altered calculation within PDP top echelon in the zone .<\/p>\n

Sources in the North East\u00a0 revealed that Ambassador Waziri had been enjoying more support from the zone,\u00a0 a development that\u00a0 had divided the leadership\u00a0 of the zone on who to endorse between\u00a0 Alhaji Tukur and Ambassador Waziri .<\/p>\n

It was also gathered that Waziri supporters\u00a0\u00a0 from the zone were counting on supports from other zones especially the South West . The Waziri group , it was learnt, visited Lagos last week to drum up support for its candidate\u00a0 even as lobbyists\u00a0 were said to be making contacts across the country.<\/p>\n

Other candidates in the race include, former\u00a0 governor of\u00a0 Gombe State Alhaji Danjuma Goje,\u00a0 second republic governor of the old Borno State Ahalji Mohammed Goni,\u00a0 Senator Jubril Aminu and former Bauchi State governor Adamu\u00a0 Mu\u2019Azu.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
