Rehoboth \u2014 Khomas Region Netball Division One reigning champions Civics confirmed their title credentials with a hard-fought 28-24 win over closest rivals Black Africa in an electrifying league match on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The penultimate first round clash was moved to the neutral Dr Lemmer High School courts in Rehoboth as part of the Khomas Region Netball League’s efforts to promote netball in neighbouring towns.<\/p>\n

With both teams going into the match on the back of an unbeaten five-match streak – netball enthusiasts in Rehoboth were treated to a fiesta as action swung from end to end with no quarter asked or given.<\/p>\n

The construction of the goal rings made it extremely difficult for both sets of goal shooters to find their rhythm and this probably led to the low score recorded at the end of the first quarter that saw the Civilians leading by a solitary goal (7-6).<\/p>\n

Black Africa’s usually reliable goal shooter Ripura Murangi seemed to had forgotten her shooting gloves at home as she dismally failed to convert easy goal-scoring chances that came her way – leaving veteran goal attacker Rebecca Goagoses to take over the reins.<\/p>\n

The long-serving servant of domestic netball did not disappoint as she rattled the net at will whenever the opportunity presented itself.<\/p>\n

Spearheaded by internationally acclaimed goal shooter, Toetsie Kambatuku, the Civilians moved into 2nd gear and found themselves 8 goals to the good going into the 3rd quarter (16-8).<\/p>\n

The beanpole goal getter netted a personal goal tally of 8 goals from 15 attempts.<\/p>\n

The introduction of veteran wing attacker, Helen Oliphant, at the beginning of the 3rd quarter injected a new lease of life into Aunt Ricky’s Babes as the Gemengde-based protagonists started to pay frequent visits into the Civilians’ danger zone.<\/p>\n

The telepathic combination of Oliphant and her two nieces, Keshia Kalomoh and Thumi Mosiane, appeared to be just what the good doctor ordered as Africa reduced the deficit significantly to 3 goals (22-19) at the end of the 3rd quarter to set up a thrilling finish with Goagoses the main architect behind Africa’s late charge.<\/p>\n

Sensing defeat, Aunt Ricky’s Babes threw more bodies upfront in search of some face-saving goals but they found that oak door of Civics’ defence manned by Wency Katjatako, Uauaa Kariahuua and Penny Ndombo in an uncompromising mood.<\/p>\n

The Civilians finally emerged 28-24 victors to consolidate their position at the top of the Khomas Region Netball Division One League.<\/p>\n

Toetsie scored 24 goals from 40 attempts, while her opposite number Ripura could only find the loop on 11 occasions from 24 goal attempts.<\/p>\n

Black Africa 3rd had the better of the proceedings in their league match against hosts Reho United in the curtain raiser.<\/p>\n

The Annie Mosiane inspired Aunt Ricky’s Babes won comfortably by 35 goals to 26.<\/p>\n
