Aston Villa<\/a>‘s new manager Alex McLeish<\/a> is delighted to have joined a club with a striker as good as Darren Bent<\/a> in\u00a0its squad.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new Villa Park boss left bitter rivals Birmingham City to join their close rivals earlier this month and has had to deal with the loss of Ashley Young, whilst trying to persuade Stewart Downing to stay.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 52-year-old is, however, delighted to have England international Darren Bent in his squad.<\/span><\/p>\n

He told the club\u2019s official website that Bent is one of the \u201ctop two or three strikers in the Premier League.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Scot added: \u201cPeople doubted him for England and he\u2019s started to score for England.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019ll be scrutinised. He\u2019s now seen as a top player and the minute he misses a chance for England or has an off game he\u2019ll be criticised.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

McLeish stated he is looking to exert his authority over the team and hopes that some of his own principles rub off on his players.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI\u2019ve got to impart my personality on the team \u2013 the spirit and the character.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI can see that character in a lot of the guys that are already there.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI want to communicate with them through individual meetings or group meetings. I won\u2019t bombard them, but just to get the right focus for the new season.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
